Golden Age Lancaster

This stock is the typical period Lancaster of the 1790-1810 and represents the lines which carried through the entire muzzleloading era. From the first “early” styles  in  the  mid 1700’s until the entry of  the caplock   guns  of  the mid 1800’s, the characteristics of the original Kentucky rifle, which originated in Lancaster, PA, endured, expanded and underwent stylistic change. As frontiersman explored East and South opening up new roads of travel connecting the Carolinas with Pennsylvania, gunsmiths were increasingly needed to repair, rebuild or create new rifles. This demand caused the smiths to move from one established school where they usually apprenticed, to another area to settle anew into their own trade. This freedom allowed change. Later guns began to be ornate in decoration as well as thinner & finer. This style Lancaster pre-shaped stock has a 1-11/16” wide butt in the sanded rough.  It retains the original lines of the early style of Lancaster stock but uses a slightly thinner buttplate slimming the rifle into a beautiful long and trim rifle which still sets well into the shoulder. The buttplate  provides a good wide 1-5/8” thickness to spread recoil from your shot. Right hand.
