BOOK4-FH Frontier Hearts a novel by Daniel W. Hall - Books-Videos-Drawings

BOOK4-FH Frontier Hearts a novel by Daniel W. Hall

FRONTIER HEARTS: The Story of Captain John Mathias, by Daniel W. Hall, 587 pages, 6" X 9", soft cover. Excerpt from a review by Bill Scurlock: "Daniel Hall has crafted a fine story with interesting and believable characters. Frontier Hearts is one of the best novels based on Colonial America that I have read. Not only is the storyline riveting, but the author, who credits his living history activities as well as extensive historical research, gets the details right. I highly recommend this page-turner." FROM THE AUTHOR: "I grew up on a small farm in Idaho where Dad raised horses, cows and hay. My four brothers and I grew up baling, bucking and stacking hay when we weren’t shooting, hunting or fighting. It wasn’t until later on in life that I realized how spoiled we had been to be able to hunt right out the back door. When Dad wasn’t looking we would round up some cows and have our own little rodeo (wonder why them cows weren’t gaining weight?) And if all that wasn’t keeping us busy we’d be having cow pie fights, swimming in dirty ditch water and making homemade firecrackers. Imagine that! And none of us ever had E-coli, Giardia or blown off fingers. Between calving and branding, loading and hauling cows, feeding and cussing cows to more than a few years in a packing house, you might say I know the critter from the inside out. I do have to admit that I know a lot more about horses now than I did back then. ‘Breaking’ a horse has a whole new meaning in fact ‘Training’ might be a better word. We did break ‘em back then but we get a whole lot more out of the horses now with a whole lot less. Riding bronc hosses ain’t quite so romantic after a certain age. I’m not sure why but the horses are higher, the ground is harder and the bones are more brittle. I enjoy working ‘with’ horses, not against them. The outcome, as well as the process, is a lot more rewarding. I come from a long line of hunters and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to go. It’s something I’ve always loved and still do even though my priorities have changed just a bit. For many years I thought it was absolutely unacceptable to come home empty handed. Things have changed and I can honestly say that our hunting trips are a lot more enjoyable because we have learned that it’s the company in camp that makes it a success. I picked up a muzzleloader over twenty years ago and haven’t put it down. It’s the only way I hunt and I’ve had more fun than should be allowed. Being a history nut I was soon drawn into reenactments, rendezvous and such, and now I spend most of my time in the mountains searching out the past within the realm of ‘living history’. Doing it the way 'they' did it. Traveling the mountain trails of Idaho in the same manner as Lewis and Clark or the early Trappers prior to 1820 is challenging and satisfying. It is all these experiences along with hours of research and studies that brings life to my books and writings. To have seen it, smelled it and felt it goes far beyond simply reading about it. From cold saddles and cold ground to hot coffee and warm sunshine, I can appreciate all that happens in the great outdoors. From rope burns and getting kicked to a nice sale check and dinner out, I can relate to the pain and reward of livestock." 'The application of the imagination is the only difference between a daydreamer and a writer.' Daniel W. Hall Writer, Poet, Artist and Adventurer.

BOOK4-MME The Mountain Man Experience a book by Daniel W. Hall * OUT * - Books-Videos-Drawings

BOOK4-MME The Mountain Man Experience a book by Daniel W. Hall * OUT *

*** OUT OF STOCK *** Go along with Dan and his friend Dave on their travels through living history. Read about their ongoing adventures in figuring out just how the men of early America lived in the Rocky Mountains. How they traveled, ate and slept. Through trial and error, they keep striving to find out how those men did it; how they could live in such extreme conditions, and not just survive for a night, but live comfortably. And so this journey will show you how Dan and Dave have gone from shivering through one cold night, to being warm and comfortable for as many days and nights as they want. They'll tell you how sore feet and blistered toes taught them about what kind of moccasins to wear; about wading in ice cold streams and making a comfortable bed. They'll talk abut blankets, hats, guns and how to keep 'yer powder dry'; about horses, hunting and easy loading accurate flintlocks. It's all been about learning from others, as well as from ourselves, and having a whole lot of fun in the process.
