1720-1760 English Heavy Dragoon Cavalry Pistol
A English Military Flintlock Holster Pistol
An English heavy dragoon military pistol dated 1760. This large yet graceful pistol was an early style originally commissioned for military use by mounted cavalry and fitted close at hand in a saddle mounted holster, ahead of the rider across the pommel for fast access. Incredibly light for all their length, our original pistol featured a 10-1/2” long smoothbore barrel in about 28 gauge. Since it was originally military issue, it was not fitted with any mounted or fixed sights. Widely used in the American Revolution. The term “heavy dragoon” was a nickname technically describing “a military contingent of heavily armed cavalry and/or foot soldiers.”
Our pistol stock is available in superb premium curly maple, or curly walnut, fully inlet for our 10-1/2” long swamped round barrel, and with ramrod hole & channel. Your choice of brass, steel or German silver mountings. This stock & mountings has been produced from an original for your assurance of the finest possible reproduction quality of all appropriate architectural lines of an English Heavy Dragoon 1720-1760 pattern.
